Cristiano Ronaldo's 100th goal for Real Madrid in Champions League

Cristiano Ronaldo was pleased to have scored his 100th competitive goal for Real Madrid and thanked his team-mates and coach for helping him reach the milestone. The 26-year-old forward netted both of Madrid’s goals in its 2-0 victory over Olympique Lyonnais on Wednesday at Stade de Gerland in a Champions League Group D fixture.

He took a leaf out of Lionel Messi's book when he reached a personal landmark and led Real Madrid into the Champions League knockout stages at Olympique Lyon on Wednesday. Ronaldo's great rival Messi scored his 200th goal for Barca 24 hours earlier and hit a hat-trick in a 4-0 demolition of Czech champions Viktoria Plzen which sparked Ronaldo to respond with his landmark 100th goal for Real.

"I didn't expect to score my 100th goal so soon,” the former Manchester United winger said on Madrid’s official website. “I'd like to thank my team-mates and the manager [Jose Mourinho], who gives me the chance to play and grow as a player and as a person." Madrid is currently in pole position in La Liga with 25 points (into last 16) from 10 matches, one ahead of Barcelona, which has also qualified for the knockout phase of the Champions League.
